Sugaring

What is Sugaring?

What is Sugaring?Body Sugaring is a more gentle way to remove unwanted hair for all parts of the body.   It’s a less painful, longer lasting & safer method that is effective on all skin types.   Sensitive skin & hair textures, for both men & women.

The technique itself is Middle Eastern, first found in Egypt, dating back around 300 B.C.   That said, there is an art and a science to it.  The Sugaring method is not a simple technique to learn after a few classes.  It takes time, practice & experience to skillfully know your craft.

Waxing is easy;  apply & rip it off!   (This method breaks hairs, which jar the hair follicle and can cause ingrown hairs).   Most practitioners,  learning how to sugar, become frustrated & quit.  Back to waxing they go.  If something is easy, anyone can do it.

Results from facial & body sugaring are lighter & finer hair that soon becomes sparse.  Sugaring keeps hair away longer since it’s removed from the root.   The hair follicle is exhausted faster than other methods of hair removal.

How does it work, what is the technique?

The sugar paste is applied in the opposite direction of the hair growth (going into the hair follicle) & is removed in the direction your hair grows naturally.  Sugaring is less painful than waxing because the paste sticks to the hair without attaching to the skin without lifting live skin cells.   Sugaring eliminates broken hairs (shaving cuts the hair in half at the surface of your skin) and minimizes ingrown hairs, normally caused by shaving or waxing.

Unique Sugar Product

The sugaring paste used is a blend of “organic” ingredients, sugar, water and lemon-juice.  There are no chemical additives so there is no fear of any harmful side effects.  The application of the sugar will remove dry, dead skin cells leaving the skin soft & silky smooth.

Will this service hurt?

The first time sugaring, especially the bikini area, will be uncomfortable.  However, sugaring is less painful than waxing since we are not lifting live skin cells.   However, if you keep up with your appointments (every 4 to 5 weeks), your hair will grow in thinner in time and it won’t be as painful.  Please note, any form of hair removal will be painful, including laser!

If you are interested in numbing cream, let me know, as I will supply you with a complementary sample.  Otherwise, the container is $35.

Preparing your skin for your treatment

Please do not use a razor or depilatory creams between appointments, this will interfere with your goal to refine & diminish your hair growth.   Hair growth should be  1/4 inch long to be removed. (If you shave, between 2 weeks is sufficient.)

Do not use lotion, sprays or powders prior to your appointment.  Keep your skin dry and clean.

Face Sugaring

To reduce redness & sensitivity on your face (a histamine reaction), the blue light (kills bacteria on contact) & or a calming product can be used following your treatment.  You may develop a few white pustules in this area following your 1st & 2nd  treatments, although, uncommon.  If you are wearing make-up, your face will be cleansed for you.

* Sugaring is all natural & the most gentle form of hair removal, however, there is a possibility of sensitivity & each person may have a different response.

* There is a $25. for the blue light.

Numbing Cream

The numbing cream is quite reliable & takes the edge off.   It should be left on your bikini area for at least 1 hour before your service; it lasts  about 4 hours.   It comes in a 1 oz. size container & sells for $35.

After Care: Maximize Results

Do not use perfumed soap or products with chemical irritants on sugared areas within 24 hours of your treatment.  Do not apply deodorant to underarms for 12 hours after a sugaring treatment.  We recommend that you avoid make-up for 12 hours following a facial sugaring treatment.  Mineral make-up is an exception.

You’ll want to establish a routine to effectively diminish your hair.  Every 4 to 5 weeks is sufficient.  After your initial visit, you shouldn’t see much of hair for at least 2 weeks.  As time goes on, your hair will start to grow in finer & sparse.

our skin may sunburn more easily immediately following a sugaring treatment due to dead skin cell exfoliation.   Wait 24 hours before exposing your skin to the sun, infra red lamps/tanning beds.   You should not receive a sugaring treatment on an area where your skin is sun burned.

Skin Spotting

Tiny red spots may appear on the skin for a few hours maybe longer, everyone is different.  If this should happen, do not be alarmed.  This is  a natural reaction caused when a hair is removed by the root.  It will disappear quickly.  The bigger the root, the bigger the spot. As your hair becomes refined, the spots will become smaller.

Menstruation

I suggest that you do not schedule your appointments 1 week prior to your menstrual cycle, as you may be more sensitive.   However, many of my clients do, if sensitivity is not an issue.   If you are menstruating, don’t let that stop you from making an appointment.  (Would you cancel a trip because Mother Nature called?  No way!  your travel bag would include a box of tampons!)  C’est La Vie!
